I recently switched to GPT-5.6-Sol and the vibes are very interesting! it feels different; does a lot of exploration before answering; the response format is better.
Recording my observations here:
It has an unconventional way of finding out answers
The other day, I pasted a screenshot of a blog and asked which font it used, instead of relying on its vision capabilities, it searched the Internet, found the blog, downloaded the relevant CSS and HTML artifacts, answered accurately (and the answer was right!)
It is more sensitive to words in the system prompts
I observed that the model was invoking a skill in every conversation, even when it wasn’t really necessary, I looked up the system prompt and found instructions such as “Always use this skill to …” I changed it to “You may use this skill when …” and the skill activation reduced a lot.
Fewer pleasantries
I give it a very detailed task, it gets to work immediately, without saying, “Let me explore the lay of the land …“. I like this. The final output also comes out short.
